Developers have been given the final go-ahead for the Flemingate complex in Beverley.
The £120m plans have now passed Government scrutiny and East Riding Council can issue formal consent.

Flemingate will include a cinema, a hotel, a range of shops, including Debenhams, and a college.
It will be built on a 16-acre site, once home to the Clariant industrial factory and Museum of Army Transport, formerly Hodgsons Tannery.

“Bought off with £2.5 million from the road repair budget to tart up Saturday Mkt - What a disgrace.”

“I often wonder if anyone in a position of influence reads these postings of ours or are they seen as mere irrelevancies. It would be nice to know that what you have to say is taken seriously and helps to inform debate and decision making. Some how, I doubt it.”

“Pah. This should be closer to Hull city centre and not stuck out in one of it's suburbs.”

“Beverley, population 29,000 (Twice the size of Hessle)
Hull, population 250,000
Flemingate value £120 million (cost £4,000 per head)
St.Stephens value £200 million (cost £800 per head)
When will Hessle be getting its £60 million make-over?
Money well spent? I think not.”

“Glad to see in the photo that Beverley is keeping its historic image and not looking like legoland in any way whatsoever.”

“The price we have had to pay (so far) is...
£2.5 million buy off of posh Beverlaay traders - the overblown Saturday Market resurfacing at the expense of the road maintainance budget.
The loss of a perfectly good chippy for the masses.
What else will the great and the good demand to allow this expansion of retails space it the East Riding's beloved market town?”

“Perhaps finding a way to pedestrianise it all the way from North Bar Within to the Flemingate development would help it become an integrated shopping and social experience.”

“Debenhams, nice. Lets hope it also includes Next and House of Fraser.”
