A MUM-TO-BE has spoken of her shock after her puppy was stolen from her garden.

Pregnant Shauna Emmerson, 17, says her Staffordshire bull terrier puppy Rocky had only be left alone for a few minutes.

She has little faith he will be returned and is now appealing for whoever took him to ensure he is looked after properly.

Shauna, of Bransholme, said: "I only had him about nine weeks.

"I bought him from a friend and got him as a treat for myself.

"He is really playful and a typical puppy. I'd take him for walks and play with him.

"He was the first dog I'd ever had."

The 14-week-old pup is thought to have been taken on Friday, September 14, at about 12.45pm.

Shauna, who lives with her boyfriend's mum in Ringstead Garth, said: "My boyfriend's mum called me and said she was going out to a doctor's appointment.

"She left and we headed back home.

"As soon as I came through the gate, I saw he wasn't there.

"We looked down the street but we couldn't see anything.

"I was really upset."

Shauna and her boyfriend Sean Tooth believe it is very unlikely Rocky escaped.

When they returned home, the garden gate was shut, which means Rocky would have had to scale a 5ft fence to get out.

Shauna, who is 29 weeks pregnant, said: "I got the puppy now so that when the baby came they'd be used to each other and grow up together.

"I'm not getting another one now. The same thing could just happen again."

Sean said Shauna is heartbroken about the theft.

He said: "Rocky was such a good dog and I doubt he would have run off because he was really slow. Once I took him off the lead and he just walked beside me.

"Shauna has been really upset and angry.

"I really hope someone nice is looking after him."

Rocky has black and brown brindle colouring, with a white patch under his chin.

Three of his paws are black and one is white.

Anyone who may know of his whereabouts is urged to call Humberside Police on 101 quoting crime number 1930221.

“Sad that the little pup has been nicked. Someone who felt sorry for it perhaps?”

“Just to clear up any misunderstanding, All dogs are as good or as bad as their owners, but my point is some dogs are more dangerous IF they turn on a child. [or an adult]. To finish in a partly flippant way I would rather tackle a Poodle or a Spaniel than any Bull Terrier.”

“No dogs whatever breed should be left unsupervised with small children at all ever. Albaz, you were making it sound like Labrador or a collie is more trustworthy breed with kids. I wouldn't sell a pup to her either I agree with you there. And these breeders definitely should not be selling puppies that young, agreed. They are blatantly doing it to make money and these sort of people very rarely care about the dogs welfare.”

“Agree Rooster. The HDM should be following the story up by finding out who is selling 4-5 week old puppies. Animal cruelty by both the seller and the owner imo.”

“you miss the point elliebean and I do know about staffies, I would never [knowingly] sell a pup to a 17yr old pregnant girl. ANY dog can turn on a baby/infant/toddler but a 2yr old staff is a very powerful animal and obviously more of a risk for that reason. Dogs are intelligent and protective but they are animals and though the risk is small, NONE should be taken.”

“She has had a 14 week old puppy for over nine weeks, surely this means it was taken from its mother after no more than 4 weeks after being born. Mimimum 8 weeks surely???
Yet again some back street breeder making some poor dog breed till its dead then kicked out onto the streets when it cant be used for money gain.
I feel more sorry for the dogs, usually got more brains than the owner!”

“Actually if you knew what you were talking about staffies are one of the best dogs proven with small children especially if they have grown up with them they have a tendency to protect children of the house and used to be called the 'nanny' dog because they are so great with kids, don't believe everything you read in the papers about this breed of dog like so many other people do!!!”

“How stupid of a then 5 months pregnant woman to get a dog of any sort let alone one of this breed. When the child is 4 or 5 a Border or Rough Collie or maybe a Labrador could have been considered. Someone should advise these people that if a 2 or 3 year old Staff turns on their then toddler the injuries would be catastrophic.”
