140 jobs to go in closure of Newport firm English Village Salads
A Newport-based salad company is to close at the end of March, leading to the loss of 140 jobs.
English Village Salads Ltd (EVS) today announced it will cease trading at the end of March following a 90-day consultation period with all 178 staff.

English Village Salads is to cease trading.
The announcement comes after a major EVS customer took a substantial part of its salads procurement in-house.
This, combined with the ongoing challenging trading environment, prompted management to conclude the business would not be viable going forward.

“Its about time the public knew what the supermarkets expect from their suppliers and why the reason some of these companies are going to the wall. its not about efficiency ,quality of product or the ability to supply its all about how much a supplier is going to give the supermarket as a kick back for the business.Surely this is illegal yet the government continue to turn a blind eye”

“Humber Growers of Welton aim to sell their land to a major supermarket. They have quoted that this will secure the future of their business.
No major supermarket has a contract with their suppliers, they will pull the plug anytime they desire.
These companies will trample all over people's lives and communities for the sake of cheap food.
Next time you shop just try your local greengrocer, butcher etc. Support your high street and local economy.”
