“As a guiding rule it's best to view all motorists as lunatics in charge of a deadly weapon. The road is a meat slicing machine and you are the ham.”

“Erm, if she did her bike test at 17 she'd be eligible to ride a bike of any capacity after 2 years of restriction. Get your facts right please.”

“I agree with you Billy, as a cyclist (pushbike) and a motorist, I know how frightening it can be when riding my bike and seeing motorists 'look past' at cars - not noticing me on my bike, though I am 6 foot tall and wearing a fluorescent vest (!) and seeing them get ready to pull out and notice me in the last second.
In the car, I always make space for cyclists and motorcyclists, but a lot of motorists seem to delight in squeezing in as much as possible - it is ridiculously dangerous.”

“I have always said that car drivers should first ride a motorcycle and then they would relise how vunerable motorcycle riders are and how many times car drivers do not see them as they just do not think bike and it is hard not to see why as they have never been on the targeting sights of a car driver.

Driver once again I say 'Think Bike'”

“Sorry i didnt actually put the age details in my post! It is under 21 you are restricted to 33 bhp and over 21you can ride anything. Now having just noticed the girls age i would say she would have to have the bike restricted to 33 bhp.”

“You can only ride a bike with an engine rating of 33bhp under 21, over 21 you can ride anything. If the bike she was riding is over 33bhp she is breaking the law. Saying that it is confusing to people who don't understand what this means, because any bike with large cc engines can be restricted.”

“Thanks Phil for putting me right, a day without learning is a day wasted. And Jamie, i think you are getting confused with what i asked. I know women and men are allowed to ride bikes equally, i just thought that you could only ride 125cc or less until you reached 21, regardless of being male or female.”

“Yes Paolo you are wrong, women are covered by the same laws as men in this country and can drive cars and ride bikes at 17 years old.
In some muslim countries women aren't allowed to drive at all, maybe you are getting confused.”

“Paulo, There is a course called " direct access " which allows novice riders to go straight to big bikes once passed. I am a biker, yet i feel that this has contributed to a few accidents as riders are not always experienced enough to handle the power of a big bike. You actually pass your test on a 500cc bike but could, once passed go out the next day and buy for example an R1 ( stupidly fast ! ) and ride it legally! The majority of accidents are caused by car / van / lorry drivers who are so absorbed in their metal cocoon that they are not aware of the presence of a bike. The amount of times i have had to kick a drivers door to warn him i am there as they have tried to move into my lane with me alongside!! Drivers please just take that extra glance each way and be aware whilst on open roads of EVERYTHING around you.”
