22-storey hotel for Hull's High Street approved
Plans for a new £30-million 22-storey hotel and conference centre in Hull’s Old Town have been approved by city councillors.
The 243-bed hotel in High Street will be operated by the Radisson Blu chain.

Construction work on what will be Hull’s tallest building is expected to start early next year once a main contractor has been appointed.
Around 150 full and part-time jobs are expected to be created by the development.

“I don't know why everyone is moaning. There's as much chance of this being built as a one legged cat burying it's plop on a frozen lake.”

“I'm all for new investment, but the drawings are of a monstrosity, couldn't they build something more in keeping with the look and feel of High Street, even something that was a crossover between the old and the modern? There's a very good reason there aren't too many tall buildings in Hull, same reason there aren't many basements or tunnels, and right by the River Hull strikes me as one of the worst places to be building a very tall and very heavy building, I have visions of this one sinking into the mud and being plagued with problems during the construction.”

“Hmmm... nice idea IF it gets built however I am detecting faint traces of another Manor Properties pipe dream here. About time this company was asked to start developing rather than just send pretty pictures to the HDM every other month.”

“Why do you people always moan? The area is not used at the moment anyway. What has this got to do with affordable housing anyway? New hotel with conference facilities to hopefully attract money and business to the city has to be a good thing. The big questions is will it ever get built? The council need to however start throwing their weight around with the developers especially the likes of Manor that don't seem to build anything and just sit on the land they own. The council need to get tough and give no more than one year for projects to start or they reclaim the land at a fraction of the cost.”

“The design of the building isn't an issue for me,what is however is the fact it will be opposite the Premier Inn hotel that I doubt very much runs at full occupancy at any time of the year as do any of Hulls other hotels,so how on earth is another one going to be successful?
Have the 'people that be' looked around Hull City centre recently? It's fast becoming a ghost town with shops and businesses closing at a frightening rate, another hotel won't help fix Hulls demise.Lets get some life back into the town before we start building up more accomadation. 150 jobs sounds wonderful and certainly not to be scoffed at,I just dont think the timing is right for another hotel. People will not come and Hull will never get back on its feet if there are no shops left to spend money in!!!”

“I think Vickstar 11's name must refer to the age of the poster. First they refer to spending money when the UK is in debt. What is the relevance in that when it is a foreign company who will be spending the money. Then they that it could be better spent on housing, courses, activity centres etc. And why, could Vickstar inform us, would a foreign company whose business is hotels, spend money doing that, instead of building a hotel,or does Vickstar think it is being built with taxpayers money?
No wonder Hull is stuck behind other places when some people want nothing to change and don't want anyone spending any money here,”
