E RIDING: Campaigners have called for an urgent meeting with the council to discuss the impact of funding cuts on East Riding schools.

They claim cuts to education spending could see up to 30 village schools closed and teachers made redundant at larger schools.

George McManus, Labour's parliamentary spokesman for Beverley and Holderness, said: "This is a disaster in the making. The future of our young people and of community schools is on the line. We must find a way to stop this now.

"East Riding Council can't hide behind the fact these cuts are being imposed by central government."

“people can moan as much as they like the education cuts are going to be savage. there is no alternative but to close small expensive schools. the alternative is for the local authority to turn thier back on the schools and tell them they have to become self funding acadamies then they can sink or swim under thier own endevours. if parents think they can make a go of their school then get off your collective backsides and go and do it instead of wailing and moaning. if you do, good luck.”

“Both Longcroft and Grammar are old buildings in need of some cash, yet Hull seems to reward their unwilling pupils with flash new schools....”
