Allam: I'd consider investing in rugby if there was one Hull club
HULL City owner Assem Allam says he would consider buying Hull FC, but only if he could buy Hull KR and merge the two clubs.
Allam paid out £40m to bail out the Tigers earlier this season and has this week said he wants to build a Sports Village at Melton – including a new £60m stadium – if he cannot buy the KC Stadium.
Allam's preference remains turning the KC into a world-class "sports village" with a 34,000 capacity, and building an Olympic-size swimming pool and squash court complex.
Now, in an interview broadcast tonight with Radio Humberside, the Egyptian-born businessman suggested he would also be willing to get involved in rugby league.
However, he admitted he would not be able to do so without buying both sides because he would to want to show any bias towards Rovers or Hull.
When asked what his solution would be to solve that, Allam suggested "one Hull club" which could be the best in Super League was the way forward.
But having spoken at length with Allam throughout this week, the Mail understands he is not serious about his proposal and will not pursue it.

“I'm an avid supporter of one of our rugby clubs, I love nothing more than a derby win, but maybe it's time we took the city from simply providing a tasty derby fixture every year to having the Northern Hemispheres biggest Rugby League club and dominating the Superleague. A united successful Rugby league club from Hull would dwarf the likes of Wigan and Leeds, all history documented it wouldn't take long for the fans to accept it.”

“Hull FC fans should be absolutely against the Allams taking over the stadium no matter what clauses are inserted into a contract of sale. I honestly believe that at some time in the future they will end up without a stadium. Leave well alone.”

“no i mean strong powerful men who run hard and fast don't fall over and roll about if someone touches them on the back. and don't need snoods and gloves to keep them warm.most football players would'nt last two tackles in rugby never mind 80 minutes.”

“I think it's a good idea. We could keep the red of Rovers and the white of Gateshull to make a really smashing strip. We could also keep Rovers' first team and wonderful travelling support, and Gateshull's nice big stadium, leaving a bunch of washed up nobodys and old un-faithful fans to go off and do their own thing...”

“I listened to the Allam interview on the BBC Sportstalk on Friday night. Allam was asked what he thought the stadium was worth. He then went on to say that the rent paid by Hull City was peanuts, only a few thousand pounds a year. He obviously took this to mean that any offer for the stadium was against the background of the current rents received. This may well be the case in property development in general, but the building of the KC Stadium was out of public funds for the benefit of the people of Hull. It cost £50m to build, not including the land and all the land surrounding the stadium.
Does Mr Allam, and for that matter the Hull people who support his purchase of the stadium, expect Hull City Council to sell the Stadium alone for anything less than £50m. If so someone has lost their marbles for I have absolutely no doubt that the Allam would make a vast profit on the KC Stadium site in years to come.
In addition the lawyers can write as many clauses as they wish into the contract for purchase but if Mr Allam wants to kick Hull FC or Hull City out of the stadium there will be nothing they can do about it. How do the lawyers write a clause to say that Mr Allam has to provide a pitch with grass on it. I have been suspicious and cynical about the Allam involvement from the off, all my cynicism is now confirmed. Selling the stadium will end up a total disaster for the sports fans of Hull.
Manchester City and Leeds United don't own their own stadiums and the most of the other clubs throughout the leagues are in hock to the value of their stadiums so effectively they don't own them. Mr Allam's claims are spurious at best.

“I'd certainly vote yes to a merge in any referendum and so would many of my mates. Burnsy saying that it would never happen is stupid. He's an idiot!”

“Jim...do you mean leave rugby for real men as in fat blokes, and women who look like fat blokes...who like to watch fat blokes falling about on top of each other in some sort of gay ritual..
rugby league....tiny minority sport that only 0.01 % of the world has ever heard of...while football is known by 100% of the worlds population...”
