Amateur chef out to cause a stir on BBC Two
AN enthusiastic amateur chef will be cooking up a storm on BBC Two tomorrow night in the quarter-final of Masterchef.
Anna Fewster, 29, originally from Willerby, spent six days filming the series last year.
And viewers will see the science teacher's cooking put under the microscope by Masterchef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
Anna, who currently lives in Leeds where she teaches, said: "It was a fantastic experience and a dream come true.
"John and Greg were both really funny and, although there is a lot of serious cooking, they were light-hearted and fun."
Masterchef contestants have to take part in three rounds designed to test their skills to the limit.
Anna said: "There were very few nerves for me during the competition.
"It was more of an exhilarating and exciting challenge.
"The one time I really did feel the pressure was during the invention round, where they give you the mystery bag.
"I could hardly hold my knife steady.
"For the round where you work in a professional kitchen I went to the Suka Restaurant at the Sanderson Hotel in Soho.
"I didn't feel any pressure - it was just fantastic, total elation."
Anna lists top chefs the Roux Brothers and Raymond Blanc as her inspirations, as well as Atul Kochhar, as she loves cooking Asian dishes.
She said: "I want to put this experience and what I've learned to good use.
"I just want to make good food and work with top chefs.
"My dream would be to work in a Michelin-starred restaurant."
Anna has been cooking seriously for the last five years, but says she has been cooking since she was young.
Proud parents Les and Vanessa said they are delighted with their daughter's success.
Mr Fewster said: "We are all very proud of her and chuffed to bits with what she has done.
"She has been cooking since she was a little girl and makes some lovely food, especially her curries."
The programme airs at 8pm on BBC Two tomorrow.
