Anglers line up from Bridlington to Spurn Point for 20th European Open Beach Championship (Video)
MORE than 1,000 fishermen from across Europe descended on the East Coast at the weekend.
Anglers from as far away as Poland and Germany lined up from Bridlington to Spurn Point for the 20th European Open Beach Championship.
The world's largest three- day beach angling festival is widely regarded as the best of its kind in Europe and is estimated to boost the region's economy by about £250,000.
Keith Lamming, owner of East Coast Fishing Tackle in Hornsea, said: "The European Open Beach has always been hugely popular and a really busy time for us, but this year has improved yet further.

"The competition has developed so much over the past ten years and now with the interest from across Europe, we are getting enquiries every day.
"It kicks the year off well for us and I know a lot of the local pubs and guest houses are exactly the same. Few businesses can say they have their busiest trading period at the beginning of March."
Although the festival now attracts the cream of European shore angling, it remains true to its original values of offering an event open to all.
The event, which is organised in association with Total Sea Fishing magazine, included the fourth running of the Bridlington Flattie Bash on Friday.
Peter Goundry, general manager of Sand Le Mere caravan park, said: "This was the biggest beach fishing event in the world, so we were delighted Sand Le Mere was chosen as the base for the championships."

“Great to hear this sort of 'happening' instead of the usual 'pinky, poncy', fund raiser for some obscure little wooly charity. It's interesting, different, good old fashioned, freezing, soaking wet fun.
Well played, long may it continue.”
