Like a train rumbling down the tracks, there was a certain inevitability about the identity of Matthew Grove's new deputy.

Fellow East Riding councillor Paul Robinson was one of the leading figures behind his campaign, which ended in victory over Labour's Lord Prescott in a memorable run-off at Bridlington Spa.

At times during the campaign, they appeared to be joined at the hip.

After the election result was announced, Cllr Robinson was grinning like the Cheshire Cat.

Having placed a £10 bet on his colleague when the odds of him winning were 100-1 probably had something to do with it.

Now, however, the really serious stuff starts. Both men not only have to hit the ground running in their new roles but win over a deeply sceptical public.

“So please tell us, dear Angus Young, how we ordinary folk can bring an abrupt halt to this corrupt cronyism.”

“Oh dear, cronyism seems to be occurring elsewhere.

How can we, ordinary people, stop it?”

“In view of this news regarding the meeting of West Mercia PCP, Police and Crime Panel:

And since we know Colin Inglis does have an eye for these HDM online articles and forums. I suspect that he & Humberside PCP are going to equally make their views known and express some displeasure! If only to reap the political point scoring from this cynical appointment and crude Tory & Humberside PCC PR blunder! ;)”

    Never a truer word spoken!!

Given the public mood following 13 years of New Liebor, MP's expenses scandal etc. etc..

Especially given the fallout of the public trust, confidence and respect in politicians and politics being at AN ALL TIME LOW!

You seriously have to question Matthew Grove's and Paul Robinson's crass judgement in the way they have handled this cynical appointment from a PR perspective, and their seeming lack of regard/respect for that public mood.

On the face of it, not very convincing evidence that they necessarily do have the essential skills, qualities and credibility etc to fulfill the role of PCC in representing and pushing for the public's policing priorities interests!! IMHO”
