“Katy, I agree with the reply that taxis are allowed to use the dedicated lanes, but not to pull out of a side road into the biker, or a cyclist or even another taxi!
I will keep going back to "Look once, look twice, LOOK FOR BIKES"
Everyone should do this whether they are pulling out of a side road, looking to overtake a parked vehicle or overtaking anothing to be honest.
I was trained by Smart Rider Training a few years ago, IMO one of the best training Companies about. They taught me that I have to look after the space I ride in, no matter where I am, what I am doing or who is around. This involves looking at the side roads, looking at what is in front of the vehicles you are behind and what any one of them could be doing next. I ride this way whether I am commuting in to work or when I am out with friends for a day out riding.
You learn to look after number one and expect everyone else on the road not to see you.”

“I don't think that being a taxi entitles you to pull out of a side street onto a main road and wipe out a bike travelling in a bus lane, nearly killing the rider?!”

“@ enricochocho
If you witnessed this accident, you would also have seen the car was a taxi, which are allowed in bus lanes”

“I saw this accident, I think that he hit by car coming out of De La Pole Ave.
All the bus lanes on Anlaby Road are a joke. Nobody takes any notice. The lanes outside HRI and the flyover are full with queuing traffic everynight. People just ignore the signs. Have police walk from Park Street to Walton Street on night and from Boothferry Road to town in a morning handing out on the spot fines will sort the problem.”

“RICH99 - I love your attitude to people who arent in a car/van etc.
Lets hope that you dont hit one of us "speeders, who deserve everything we get."
Yes, some bikers exceed the speed limit, you may think that some even cut in front of you in traffic. You may be right, not all bikers are law abiding, just like not all car drivers are law abiding. Its the minority that spoil it for the majority. It only takes a fraction of a second to look again for a cyclist or biker, and that fraction of a second could keep you out of prison, having to live with causing the death of someone because you couldnt be bother to look again.”

“This morning, for instance as I was travelling into work on my bike I had to contend with a white Fors Connect van? with sign writing on the side using the bus lane from Albert Avenue all the way to HRI, even after I passed him and showed him the Bus Lane signs! After getting around him I came over the top of the Anlaby Road flyover to find a red Seat Ibiza? and a black Mondeo both in the bus lane, STATIONARY and the Mondeo driver was trying to get into the correct lane as he probably thought there was a police officer at the bottom of the bridge. as they had been arguing he got back in his car and sped off at high speed. The other car didnt move so i went around them. They pulled off again and continued to use the bus lane all the way to Arnold Street when they pulled off.
Just when I thought i was goingo to make it the rest of the way with a clear lane, someone in a silver Peugeot 206 cc decided to pull into the buss lane near Mustafahs, still with teh Ford van behind them.
IT SEEMS THAT PEOPLE CANNOT READ THE BUS LANE, RESTRICTED USE SIGNS OR DONT KNOW HOW TO TELL THE TIME!!!!!!
I worry that the next biker, or cyclist that gets hit down that road will not ba as lucky as this bloke earlier in the week. The dark mornings are coming quickly and the bad weather will be here soonm, PLEASE LOOK OUT OF PEOPLE ON TWO WHEELS.”

“The whole section of Bus Lanes on Anlaby Road, from Town all the way to Boothferry Road roundabout are always being abused by car drivers wanting to get into lane and not giving a damn about why the lanes are there in the first place.
I agree with "Blasphemy," the police should be doing their part to stop this. I have stopped using the road on an evening as it seems to dangerous for a biker, I would rather take my chance on the A63 as I feel safer!
Glad to here that he has not been seriously injured and I am pleased it is only bumps and bruises which should heal quite quickly.”
