Archbishop of York rings in sixth bell at All Saints Church in Roos
THEY made a sweet sound to welcome a very special visitor.
Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu was in remote Holderness to dedicate a new bell at All Saints Church in Roos.
The whole community had worked together to raise £47,000 to restore the existing five bells and add a new one. They appealed for donations and did sponsored challenges.
A well-attended service yesterday involved the Archbishop ringing and blessing the new bell.

Speaking afterwards, he said: "The bells really are ringing brilliantly. To raise £47,000 in the matter of such a short period in these difficult times is very impressive.
"I have never been to Roos before, only to Withernsea. But I am very glad they invited me today.
"The music and the singing of the children was lovely."
The year-long fundraising push was launched after fears the existing bells might not last.
Helen Audley, tower captain at All Saints, was heavily involved with the fundraising and took part in the service.
She said: "Three of our old bells date back to the 17th century and the remaining two were cast in 1911.
"One hundred years later, it became apparent that the bearings and other fittings were worn out and drastic action was needed if the bells were not to fall silent.
"Given that Roos has an active and enthusiastic band of local ringers, the decision was made to add an extra bell at the same time."
The new bell was cast last November by J Taylor & Co, the company that made the 1911 bells.
Mrs Audley said: "We had to raise £47,000 in a year to restore the old bells and cast the new one – never in a million years did I think we would have raised this amount in a year.
"The bells are much appreciated in Roos. It's a small rural community and the appeal received tremendous support.
"The money was raised by various fundraising events, awards and private donations.
"People have been generous financially, but the practical help we have received has been amazing.
"The fundraising events we held pulled together sections of the community who maybe wouldn't otherwise have got involved."
The money went towards rehanging the bells on ball bearings, refurbishing or replacing many of the other fixtures and fittings and cleaning and repainting the bell frame.
Explaining the addition of another bell, Mrs Audley said: "Change ringing on five bells is very limiting. The maximum number of different changes is 120. The addition of an extra bell will increase that to 720.
"In ringing terms, that is far more interesting."

“I think the archbishop need to pay a visit to archbishop sentamu and see what is going on behind the scenes there. if he digs down he wouldnt be impressed with what is going on with teachers cavorting with each other.”
