In the first robbery at Yorkshire Bank in Princes Avenue, west Hull, on Tuesday, the man also made verbal threats to the cashier.

Police said staff and customers who were in both banks were left traumatised.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Cunningham said: "The suspect is relatively calm and he seems quite brash and confident about not being caught.

"Although he has taken some precautions to cover his face, he is committing these offences in premises that are covered extensively by CCTV, on busy streets, and busy times of day.

"These are traumatic events that have a lasting effect on people. Even though they have not seen a weapon, they have felt under threat, which is why they have felt forced to hand over money."

The second robbery took place at the NatWest bank in Hessle Road on Wednesday.
