POLICE have made an arrest after a pensioner was robbed at knifepoint in his home.

The men told Mr Nicolini they were police officers wanting to speak to him about an earlier burglary at his flat, which had happened weeks before while he was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer in hospital.

Mr Nicolini buzzed the men into the building and was then held at knifepoint while they robbed his flat.

He said: "I'm pleased the police have made an arrest.

"They seem to be doing all they can.

"I'd like to see whoever did this in court."

Mr Nicolini was diagnosed with cancer in April and has been told there is no cure.

He recently underwent chemotherapy to reduce the pain but, because it has spread from his stomach, doctors have told him there is nothing more they can do.

Detective Superintendent Scott Young said: "We treat reports of this kind extremely seriously and are investigating this as a priority.

"One arrest has been made and we are hopeful a second arrest will take place within the next week.

"We would like to reassure the public that offences of this type are uncommon and appeal for anyone with information to come forward."

The 35-year-old Hull man who was arrested has been released on bail until January while officers carry out further enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, quoting reference 1942701.
