Artist donates painting to help church

HUGGATE: Village artist Simon Wallace has donated one of his original oil paintings to help the village's 14th century St Mary's Church raise £20,000 for essential repairs.

The painting, called Huggate – Late Summer, will be a prize in the village Christmas draw. Other novel prizes include a sack of potatoes and winter fuel.

The prize painting is on show at the Wolds Inn pub, where tickets will be on sale for the draw on December 12.

Steve Poole, chair of St Mary's Parochial Church Council, said: "Proceeds from the Christmas draw are always needed – never more so than now because during 2013 we need to spend more than £20,000 on essential repairs and maintenance to the building.
