BRANSHOLME: Police have said they are "thoroughly investigating" rumours of an attempted accosting on the estate.

Officers have been contacted by worried parents after speculation on social media websites, including Facebook and Twitter.

Humberside Police said they have not received any reports of an accosting or abduction, but have been alerted to a white van acting suspiciously on the estate last week.

Officers are now investigating whether any offences have taken place and are appealing for the van driver to come forward.

A force spokesman said: "We are keen to establish exactly what happened in order to identify any criminal offences that may have taken place and a thorough investigation is well under way.

"Police are keen to ensure that any information circulated on social media sites is accurate and that misinformation and speculation is kept to an absolute minimum, as these can generate false lines of enquiry that the police have to waste time investigating."

Anyone with information about suspicious activity should call the force on 101.
