BAE Systems' proposed merger with EADS will not now go ahead, the two companies have confirmed.

The £28bn deal would have created a defence giant with more than 220,000 staff throughout Europe.

Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis was among MPs who wrote to Prime Minister David Cameron recently, warning that the UK's industrial and national interests could be jeopardised by the merger.

Up to 200 employees are at risk at BAE's Brough base in Mr Davis's constituency and he had previously voiced fears about further job losses as a result of a deal.
