A BEVERLEY Scout group has reopened a Beaver section after a 15 year break.

The previous Beaver section in Molescroft closed in the mid-1990s due to a lack of adult volunteers to run it.

This was despite a huge demand among youngsters for places within the group, which is one of the five sections of the Scouting family and for children between six and eight-years-old.

However, a renewed appeal for adult volunteers has now allowed a Beaver colony to be set up again.

Leaders of the 1st Molescroft Scout Group, which meets at the Longcroft Lower School site in Church Road, Molescroft, have recently invested 10 boys and girls into the new Beaver colony.

Kester Sharpe, 1st Molescroft's group Scout leader, said: "We're thrilled the group has re-opened.

"An investiture was held for the Beavers, which is the ceremony at which a new member of Scouting formally joins the Scouting Movement.

"They were presented at the event with a neckerchief scarf to wear in the group's red colour."

1st Molescroft Scout Group was started in 1934.

It is already made up of more than 70 members, in a Cub Scout Pack, for eight to 10-year-olds, a Scout troop – for 10 to 14-year-olds – and an Explorer Scout Unit, for those aged 14 plus.

With the group doing well Mrs Sharpe is keen to add to the number of leaders.

She said: "Being a leader in the group is great fun – it's the best thing I ever did.

"Each week is a challenge but the energy and enthusiasm of the young people is extremely rewarding."
