BEVERLEY under-15s came out on top in the battle of England versus Scotland with a 25-14 victory over Biggar from Lanarkshire.

The Scottish outfit have been touring East Yorkshire playing rugby union matches over the last week and following a game against Driffield the night before, they then visited Beaver Park to take on Beverley.

Beverley were immediately on the offensive from the kick off and their early pressure told when a quick move along the line saw Connor McBeth run a line through the Biggar defence to open the scoring on five minutes.

While Beverley were being creative with their passing moved, Biggar were making good ground thanks to tight head prop Paul Davidson, who looked set to score on one drive only to be brought down short of the line.

Biggar managed to retain possession and after several more phases outside centre Mark Bertram scored their first try under the posts in the 12th minute before converting himself.

The Scots were then able to force numerous turnovers to gain good territory and Danny Beagan scored their second try under the posts, converted by Bertram to take the score to 14-5 in Biggar's favour.

The home side came straight back and following a scrum five metres out, several phases of play saw them set the platform from which Luke Standbridge was able to dive over under the posts for 14-10 at half-time.

Beverley's ball retention was excellent in the second half, although Biggar's defence remained solid deep inside their own half, especially when stopping McBeth on two rampaging runs to the line.

But Beverley's determination eventually paid off with another score.

From a scrum in centre field, the ball was passed successively through the backs before second row Max Easton-Minns broke free and played in Danny Chalcraft to score Beverley's third try.

Then from a scrum just inside the Biggar half, Jimmy Dixon ran the ball on the blind side and the defence did not see him until he was away, but they were able to bundle him into touch 10 metres from the line.

Moments later, a sliced clearance gave the ball back to Beverley and Peter Wilson went over to make it 20-14 to the hosts, before a second try for fly-half Standbridge right at the death clinched victory for the home team.

Beverley: Jack Wilson, Tom Brown, Paddy Johnson, James Norton, Max Easton-Minns, Danny Chalcraft, Tim Ellis, Callum Booth, Jimmy Dixon, Luke Standbridge, Connor McBeth, Brandon Faulkener, Jordon Chester, Joe Mansfield, Matt Smallwood, Matt Barkworth, Pete Wilson, Ben Wadsworth, Sam Nursey, Lewis Charlton-Evans.
