BEVERLEY stormed to the top of the table with an outstanding 77-3 victory over Morpeth.

Playing in searing heat, the Beavers ran in twelve tries and have now amassed 122 points in the first two games of the season.

On this showing, it is clearly going to take a very good side to beat them as they bid for the Northern Division North One East title.

Morpeth did briefly lead, thanks to a penalty by scrum-half Matt Jinks, but Beverley were quickly into their stride as well with a try after four minutes by full-back Richard Bussey.

Further tries by winger Goran Jelencic, scrum-half Chris Infield and prop Francis Pickering, together with a conversion and a penalty from centre Tumasi Tumani, took Beverley to 27-3 after only 20 minutes.

Morpeth fought back gamely, but they could not match the flair and cutting edge of the Beverley backs, who looked likely to score whenever they had the ball.

Tries on the stroke of half-time by David Worrall and winger Lee Birch, one converted by Tumani, allowed Beverley to turn round 39-3 ahead.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Beverley continuing to play some scintillating rugby.

Jelencic went over for his second try, centre Sam Atiola added Beverley's eighth try and lock Craig Hancock was on hand to round off a fine move for a ninth.

Despite the heat, the pace of the game never flagged and Beverley ran in three further late tries from Birch, Tumani and Tupai. Birch took over the kicking in the second half and slotted over four out of five.
