Blue plaque for Jacob Bronowski, Ascent of Man presenter and University of Hull lecturer
A former University of Hull lecturer, once watched by M15 and deemed a security risk, will be posthumously honoured with a blue plaque to mark his ties with the city.
Poland-born Dr Jacob Bronowski, who died in 1974, was best remembered for presenting the 1973 BBC series The Ascent of Man.
But he was also a university lecturer who was monitored by the British secret service M15 – a fact only recently discovered by his family.
The plaque will be unveiled today at 2.30pm in Hallgate, Cottingham, where he lived between 1934 and 1942 when he was a university lecturer.

“He was once watched by M15??? Is that higher up than MI5 or just the HDM's usual miss spell??”
