Family and friends have paid tribute to a Bishop Burton College student whose body was discovered in a York river.

Jonathan Havron, 18, who was studying uniformed services at the college near Beverley, went missing in the early hours of Saturday, February 27.

Police launched an intensive search for the teenager, which involved divers scouring the rovers Ouse and Foss.

His body was found in the basin of the River Foss yesterday.

Jonathan's sister Nikita Ashby paid tribute to her brother on a Facebook page set up to help find Jonathan.

She said: "Unfortunately, the body recovered from the Foss basin is Jonny.

"We would like to thank everyone for their help and support. RIP Jonny, we love you."

Staff and students at Bishop Burton College are in shock following the news.

A spokeswoman said: "Everyone at the college extends their deepest sympathy to Jonathan's family and friends at this sad time."

Jonathan, of Huntington, was last seen at the Lowther Arms on Cumberland Street, in York.

Inspector Mark Henderson, of York Police, said: "Although there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his disappearance, we are still trying to establish how Jonathan came to be in the river."

Meanwhile, anxious family and friends of another Bichop Burton student, Russell Bohling, do not believe he has taken his own life.

Hopes the missing 18-year-old will be found alive come following a potential sighting of Russell in the Hull area.

Detectives are following up the new lead in the case amid concerns that someone else could be involved in his mysterious disappearance.

Russell, who has a speech and language disorder, vanished after leaving his West Ella home on Tuesday, March 2.

His blue Renault Clio car was found the following day at a car park at 400ft high Bempton Cliffs, near Bridlington.

His father, Roger Bohling, said: "We do not believe that Russell has taken his own life.

"We understand that the police have also picked up that point of view while talking to his friends in the course of their inquiries.

Anyone with information on Russell's whereabouts should call Humberside Police on 0845 6060222.
