Police numbers at 33-year low, Hull MP says
A Hull MP has released figures showing the number of Humberside Police officers has fallen to a 33-year low.
Hull North MP Diana Johnson said figures from the House of Commons library show the force now has fewer officers than in any year since 1979.

Ms Johnson, a shadow crime and security minister, said the force has 1,830 officers, compared with 1,849 in 1979.
"Humberside Police numbers have been slashed to a 33-year low and police powers have been weakened," she said.

"It's disgraceful that, in 2012, Humberside has even fewer police than we had in 1979. Worse still, these police cuts are set to go even deeper before 2015."
Home Office figures released in July showed Humberside Police had 1,856 officers in March. The force is due to lose a further 205 officers as it battles to save £30 million before 2015.

“As all of the police came from jobs like custody suite and from 999 call handling and other such non police jobs she should stop whining and get out and about and see what her wonderful councillors have stopped co-operating with the police on in the Hull North Constituency. Like not buying their officers some bikes and see what else they haven't spent their Community Safety Budget on so the East Hull Mafia can claim it back as a saving, rather than spend it for the good of their residents.”

“worker 111. Are u serious.
Get rid of the cheap labour of PSCO,s and you think we can employ more expensive polic officers.
Please explain that to us all.”

Woud you like to name which bank the Labour Government owned. The credit crunch was caused by the banks gambling on the international money markets on houses in the United States that had been mortgage up to 3 times, on currency deals where they squandered trillions on the movement of the exchange rate, and while all this was going on, the Torys were calling for more freedom for the banks because, they said, they can be trusted.
Barcleys and the LIBOR rate, the obscene bonusses and the dodgy deals did the economy no good.
However all the time people like you blame the Labour Government the less chance we have of stopping the guilty and penalising those who actually caused the mess.
I suppose you would like to see all the new hospitals close along with the schools and childrens centres plus all the other things that make life a little better for so many provided by the last government”

“Surely Ms. Johnson should be praising the fact that fewer police are required because there is less crime? You see, stastistics can be made to 'prove' anything.
Having said that, she is a member of party that created in excess of 3,500 new offences during their time in office, and spent all the nation's money.
Quite amusing too to see a Labour MP complaining about the weakening of police powers.”

“Perhaps the new PCC (and deputy) could help out on the streets to justify their large salaries. For the cost of a uniform (OK in Lord P's case it would have to be XXXL) they could do their bit in fighting crime after the numbers of real police officers have been cut further by the Tories.”

“Maybe if they got rid of all the PCSO's they could afford to employ real police officers.
How many PCSO's where mployed in 1979.”

“Two points here.
Firstly Ms Johnson, why are the cuts happening? Because Labour bankrupt the country.
Secondly did they have a police helicopter in 1979? how much a year does that cost to run? I would imagine you don't get much change from £500k p/a.”
