'Opportunist': Nick Clegg.
Before the last general election, the Liberal Democrats pledged to oppose any increase.
But they supported the rise after joining the Government.

Mr Clegg has now apologised for breaking the pledge.
Diana Johnson, Labour MP for Hull North, said: "Nick Clegg's opportunist apology for Lib Dem broken promises on tuition fees will cut no ice in Hull.
"The pledge to freeze tuition fees was not just in the small print of the Lib Dem manifesto. It was Nick Clegg's flagship election promise."

“Demonica has a fair point,
Most politicians are pretty unscrupulous and rarely do anything that might be in the public interest.--Most are..powermad-egotistical and are prone to refabricate the truth when it suits.
What Simone offers though is something concrete.
If I was at a job interview, I would stand a better chance of getting that job if I offered my new employer some incentive for choosing me,,”

“It doesn't matter what party they belong to; they all embroider the truth, fillibuster, down-play their failings and sidestep issues.

“With the furore that this apology has created people seem to think that politicians have never previously broken pledges. The one outstanding facet of this instance is that he has apologised for it - that is the unique part because, from experience I have realised that a) politicians are never wrong: and b) they consequently have never been known to apologise!”

“My daughter was at Cambridge in the 1990s when a labour prospective MP approached her and told her that she could vote for him at the forthcoming election. Labour, he continued were definitely not going to introduce tuition fees.
When elected, what they do ...... introduce tuition fees.
When my daughter next saw the candidate (who was unsuccessful) and asked why the government had backtracked, the reply was ..."It is far too complicated an issue for most people to understand" ........ and that in Cambridge!!!!
So, Labour and the Liberals have BOTH lied. Labour supporters can't now claim the moral high ground when it was them that initially created them (after a promise not to).”

“Hilarious that Ms. Johnson should even consider uttering the words "...broken promises on tuition fees."
"Labour introduced tuition fees having come to power saying it had no plans to do so and after promising in its 2001 manifesto that "We will not introduce top-up fees and have legislated to prevent them".
The minister who pushed fees through the Commons in 2004 was Alan Johnson. He admitted later that Labour was open to the charge that it had broken its manifesto pledge."

“Nick Clegg--- best known for being ;
1. A Liar---- to get into power
2. A Backstabber---- to millions of people over- EU and of forcing many British firms and families out of the job market / Tuition Fees and the forcing ordinary people out of top education.
3. Being the Tories best weapon for getting away with and creating an Elitist state.”

“Don't forget that Nick Clegg is has unscrupulous as the Tories he supports. So an apology is a very small price for him to pay for the wreckage he and the Tories have done and will do in the future. He is (to put it bluntly) a power grabbing git, who lied to get in power--(he knew precisely that a majority Tory rule would stab ordinary working class and low income people in the back). He has helped the Tories create a Rich v Poor society. I am not ashamed of the country but of the way it is becoming and of how other countries now percieve us. After all the rich and powerful can always run away from the mess they have created but ordinary people have to face it and live with it. Nick Clegg and co. have never liked the British people and will do all they can to destroy us for their personal gain.--Only quick urgent policy changes can help not empty promises.”

“@KiminHull
What spin?! Pray tell me what and where I have got the wrong end of the stick when it comes to the economic and political mess that this country finds itself in after 13 years of Nu Liebor?!
Besides the national picture; you sure get a flavour from the HDM/ST & GT web sites and such comments as to some of the factors and reasons to have caused Hull and the Humberside region to have long been in significant economic decline and degeneration!!?”
