EAST YORKS: MP Graham Stuart is backing moves to have unscrupulous will-writers brought to book.

The Beverley and Holderness MP has welcomed news The Legal Services Board is minded to recommend will- writing should be regulated.

The Tory MP said "This is fantastic news for people who have been victims of unregulated will-writing firms.

"Some unscrupulous firms have been known to waste years sorting out an estate and often charge many times over the odds for sloppy work. And, at the moment, there's no one to complain to about that."

Mr Stuart insists the Legal Ombudsman needs to regulate what these firms get up to.

He said: "At the moment, convicted fraudsters can offer a will-writing service. This is simply wrong.

"Someone selling you a savings policy needs to be qualified and the man installing your boiler needs to be qualified and yet those writing and administering wills have to pass no test whatsoever.

"I feel that the tide is turning and that those of us pressing for change are winning the argument and will prevail so people never again have to put up with shoddy work and outrageous prices."
