EAST YORKS: Schools from across East Yorkshire have been invited to attend a recycling event at Hull's KC stadium.

Stem (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) will be held on November 29 and November 30.

This year the theme will be finding out what happens to people's waste.

Pupils will be finding about what happens to their rubbish once it has been put in the blue recycling bins.

EAST YORKS: The Arts Council has awarded £7,000 to develop contemporary dance in the East Riding.

The grant is to bring a professional dance company to The Spa Bridlington for a performance along with an education package for young people and continuing professional development for adult artists. Organisers want to build on last year's success when Wayne McGregor's Random Dance performed at The Spa.

The funding has provided the opportunity to work with Richard Alston Dance Company. The company hopes to provide a strong education package and begin to develop a long-term relationship with The Spa and the local region.

The performance will take place on Thursday, April 11, next year. For tickets, call 01262 678258.

POCKLINGTON: Visitors to the town took part in a guess the weight of the barrel competition at an arts centre, with funds going toward Help For Heroes.

The event took place instead of a planned barrel run on Sunday, which had to be cancelled after a number of teams were unable to attend. Instead, visitors tried to guess the weight of a series of beer casks, donated by Brass Castle Brewery.

The fundraiser was organised by the Pocklington and Market Weighton Round Table as a lead up to Pocktoberfest, which takes place later this month. Visit ww.pocktoberfest.co.uk for more information.

BEVERLEY: Art gallery Creation Fine Arts is launching a competition to celebrate the Humber Bridge and give photographers a chance to exhibit and sell work.

Entry is open to professionals, amateurs and under-18s. Submissions must be at the gallery by 6pm on Friday, October 26, with judgment being made by November 17. Photographers will be responsible for mounting and framing. E-mail nigel@creationfinearts.co.uk for details.
