HULL: Hull North MP Diana Johnson has called on the Government to finalise a deal to ensure thousands of homeowners in East Yorkshire can get flooding insurance.

Almost 17,000 homes in Hull could struggle to get home insurance against the risk of flooding when a Government agreement ends next year.

The voluntary Statement of Principles, in place since 2000, means insurers provide flood cover as long as the Government continues to invest in flood defences, but it runs out in July.

Yesterday, Ms Johnson delivered about 500 letters to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from Hull North residents concerned about future insurance.

E YORKS: The final dates for sending Christmas post have been announced by Royal Mail.

The latest recommended posting dates for UK Christmas delivery are Thursday, December 20, for first class, Tuesday, December 18, for second class and Saturday, December 22, for special delivery.

Doug Neal, Royal Mail's Delivery director for the Hull area, said: "Christmas is the busiest time of year for Royal Mail and our customers.

"As we do every year, we encourage people to post and order presents early to help us spread the workload in the run up to Christmas."
