In Brief: Spencer Dale; Victoria Plumb
FINANCE: Bank of England chief economist Spencer Dale is heading to Hull for an event organised by the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Dale is executive director and chief economist at the Bank of England, having been appointed to the position in July 2008.
In addition to his membership of the Monetary Policy Committee, he is also responsible for the Monetary Analysis & Statistics Divisions of the Bank.
Mr Dale first joined the Bank of England in 1989 before being appointed private secretary to Mervyn King in 1997.

He then served as head of monetary assessment and strategy division (1999-2000) and of the conjunctural assessment and projections division (2000-2006).
Between 2006 and July 2008, Mr Dale was on secondment from the Bank of England, working as a visiting senior adviser in the Division of Monetary Affairs at the board of governors of the US Federal Reserve. He has published numerous research papers in academic journals and central bank publications on issues relating to monetary policy strategy, central bank communications, and financial markets.

APPOINTMENTS: Victoria Plumb has announced three new appointments.
The Hull company, which is now the largest independent bathroom e-tailer in the country, has enjoyed a significant growth in sales and is on target to achieve £25m for the financial year.
To support this growth, Victoria Plumb in Sutton Fields has appointed Dominique Smith as press and marketing executive, Billy Smithers as web developer and product marketing co-ordinator Sam Dowle.
Marketing manager Sam Jenkinson said: "We're looking to more than double the marketing team to support plans for future growth, and these new appointments are a welcome first step."
