HULL: The district auditor's findings from the audit of the 2011-12 financial statements have been welcomed by Hull City Council.

The annual report concluded the council has taken action to secure sustainable funding to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of its services.

Councillor Phil Webster, portfolio holder for finance and procurement, said: "I want to congratulate the officers and managers who have worked so hard over the past 12 months.

"This is particularly the case given the very challenging financial environment the council is in. I think it shows the rigour the council applies to ensure resources are better targeted, utilised more fully and the measures taken recently will ensure this continues to improve."
