Education Secretary Michael Gove is visiting Beverley today to discuss with MP Graham Stuart and East Riding Council leader Stephen Parnaby how to improve school facilities.

The East Riding got nothing from the Building Schools For The Future (BSF) programme and now has a £400m backlog of work needed.

Beverley and Holderness MP Mr Stuart said: "We will be able to tell the Secretary of State about the practical, can-do attitude we have in the East Riding and our commitment to delivering value for money, low-cost solutions to capital spending in schools.

"The council has proposals that would allow early work to start on improving our schools, at reasonable cost and to the benefit of local children and their education. Steve and I will be pressing the Secretary of State to hear our pleas, release funding and let us show what we can do when given the chance."

“Some funny lines Peesooper..but perhaps these matters are too serious for joshing.... my 3 kids have to go to these run down slums, not those of the posh boys of Whitehall such as Gove`s, Clegg`s and Cameron`s !
It has always been this way, areas like ours neglected whilst the fat cats and plutocrats down south preen themselves and look down on us .. Well ---- off. Now I`m with you Peesouper !!”

“Oh quelle suprise...I bet they end up demolishing Longcroft, building on the site and leaving us with even fewer sports facilities because oh yes....Mr Gove doesn't give a **** about the health of our children if he can make a quick buck out of the sale of school fields.
He'll be in good company with lard lad and graham.”

“This would obviously have been a most important meeting for the future of schools and education in out region. Let us hope Mr.Gove could deliver up some funding to deal with our all too often ramshackle buildings, which often are no longer fit for the twentieth ,let alone this, century. I have to say ,I am doubtful, Gove seems only interested in funding his pet academies and free schools, which thankfully we only have seven of here in the Riding. How we need a purpose built new secondary here in Beverley, but Gove would only allow that if the school sold its soul , teachers, pupils, and parents, to his discredited academies model, which is socially regressive and educationally divisive. Comprehensive education should mean the same chances for all, never expect a Tory to deliver that , it is just not in their DNA !”
