HULL: A national campaign called Don't Go Cold Turkey will visit Princes Quay Shopping Centre tomorrow.

Trained advisers will offer smokers support and advice on the best method to quit the habit this year.

National research, commissioned by Pfizer Limited, which is running the roadshow, reveals 58 per cent of almost 500 smokers quizzed are set to try to quit this month.

A third are planning to go "cold turkey", trying to give up immediately using willpower alone.

Dr Sarah Jarvis, a BBC medical correspondent and practising GP, is backing the campaign.

She said: "My main aim is to get people to look at leading healthier lifestyles and one of the most important of these is stopping smoking.

"I'm aware the majority of people who do smoke are either desperate to quit or have tried and failed in the past.

"I want those who are motivated to quit to consider that there is support available and that even a brief conversation with their healthcare professional or local stop smoking service can increase their chances of success by up to four times, compared with going "cold turkey".
