"The response was excellent and far exceeded my expectations.
"For many entrants it is the first time they will have exhibited their photography in public and had an opportunity to sell their work.
"It has certainly encouraged the gallery to run another competition later this year although we have not yet settled on the subject."

EAST YORKS: Beverley author Val Wood is releasing the paperback edition of her best-selling novel The Innkeeper's Daughter on Valentine's Day.
To mark the occasion she will be appearing at two sessions in Beverley on Saturday to sign copies.
She said: "It is always a pleasure to meet my readers face to face. The Innkeeper's Daughter got a very warm reception when the hardback edition was released last year and I'm hoping the paperback can do the same."
Val will be signing copies at WHSmith Books in Toll Gavel at 11am and Boyes in Wednesday Market at 2pm.
EAST YORKS: Thousands of young people are counting down the days until the first heats of the Humberside Police Rock Challenge.
The dance and drama competition starts next Tuesday in Bridlington.
Superintendent Samantha Manning, of the Humberside Police community safety unit, said: "It is very rewarding to see this life-changing event grow over the years. More and more young people are learning how to be their best by rejecting artificial stimulants in favour of the drug-free high achieved by being a part of the Rock Challenge experience."
