HOWDEN: Pupils will parade through the town to celebrate the junior school's centenary.

The children will walk in costume from Howden Junior School in Hailgate to the Market Square on Friday, March 22, at 9am.

Once in the square, they will sing the school song and launch 100 balloons.

The town crier will announce the school's centenary and the public will be invited to sing Happy Birthday.

An exhibition will be on show in Howden Shire Hall during the week, from Monday, March 18. There will also be a centenary celebration evening on Thursday, March 21.

Headteacher Judy Scargill said: "We will celebrate our heritage with both old and young, bringing the community together to enjoy looking back at 100 years at our site."
