From December, business passengers from East Yorkshire will be a convenient ride along the M62 from the global business world.
The move was enabled by British Airways' acquisition of British Midland (bmi).
Andy Lord, British Airways director of operations, said: "This will make the route affordable for customers who, perhaps, have not thought about it before.
"This is a welcome return to Yorkshire for British Airways and we are very excited about flying from this excellent, commercially important airport once again.
"bmi's integration into British Airways is enabling us to grow our network as we promised, giving customers more flights to destinations we know they want to fly to.
"Leeds Bradford has a significant catchment area and we are delighted to offer not only direct flights to London but a well-timed schedule that will allow customers from this region to connect with our extensive short-haul and long-haul flights from Heathrow."
The flights have been priced to compete with rail travel or going by car. All inclusive one-way fares from Leeds Bradford to Heathrow are available from £42, including a 23kg luggage allowance.
John Parkin, Leeds Bradford Airport chief executive, said: "We are delighted to welcome British Airways to Leeds Bradford.
"There is a detailed business case that has to work for both partners and this route has been the number one required route.
"It has been a long time coming but anything worth having is worth waiting for."
Mr Parkin said Yorkshire had been "outside the main stream of connectivity" and the new service would help to address that.
He said: "This important new service to Heathrow connects Yorkshire with the world.
"It provides our businesses with the access they need to emerging and established global markets, and enables those markets to easily come to Yorkshire, bringing their investment and inbound tourism direct into our region."

“Jerry and Dean, absolutely agree. particularly when you land, you feel like home without having a trek across London to catch the train, or drive back up the M62 from Manchester.”

“I can't understand why DJE83 has so many red arrows? I presume they are from people who have never done the "Humberside-Schiphol" route? It is so easy. You check your bags in at Humberside and then a 40 minute flight to Amsterdam. Schiphol airport is so easy to find you way around and you don't need to re-check your bags in again, they are automatically put on your next flight to wherever that may be. We saved a lot of money doing this route.”

“I agree with most other posts. We always try to fly from Humberside no matter where we go in the world. Flying to Sri Lanka next January... from Humberside. Flying from India back home to Humberside. Marvelous!”

“CabinetMerlot:
Surely I can say what I want here and don't really need you to tell me I am missing the (your) point? I was trying to open up the discussion.
Neg_Dupree:
And yes, it seems someone doesn't like what we said! I wonder why?
Have a good weelend everyone!”

“Is it called Leeds / Bradford because it's nowhere near either?
For the amount of time it takes bumper-to-bumper to get from the M62 to L/B you might as well drive to Stanstead or Luton.”

“The problem is that Doncaster stole Thomson from Humberside when it opened. It was a stupid idea to open an airport at Doncaster anyway, and we can thank His Lardship for his role in that. Now both Humberside and Doncaster are struggling.
I have experience of using KLM. Tends to be a bit more expensive than direct flights from Heathrow. But with the conveniance of travelling from Humberside, not having to drag luggage around London, and costs of surface access to Heathrow, Humbersides KLM service wins hands down. As I said earlier, you only check in your luggage at Humberside, and do not need to check in again at Amsterdam, you just go straight to your connecting plane. So you get your luggage at your end destination, and have saved the hassle of getting to the likes of Manchester or Heathrow.”

“Hi johnniebj
I don't think that's the point of this thread, the trip down to Heathrow. Its the state of Humberside Airport and its demise in offering flights that people actually want. Yes you can fly KLM, great airline, to many Worldwide destinations but most people want a convenient flight to the Med, mostly Spain.
So Humberside doesn't have that now so the long haul thing really doesn't come into it, Manchester would be the choice of many long haul destinations, unless London was the only choice, but for the purpose of this discussion I think its only short haul, Med and around there, that is being the point of this discussion. As for Humberside I don't personally know if KLM is a good option for long haul flights, with connecting flights from Humberside, although I do know people who think they are the best.
Thanks for your input.”

“I agree with Neg_Dupree - why would anyone drive to Leeds/Bradford to get to Heathrow, when there's a (usually!) good train service from Hull to London? Admittedly there's a tube ride at the other end, but without changing. Same for Gatwick - there are direct trains from St Pancras, right next door to Kings Cross.
But Humberside's owners (the same group who owns Manchester and East Midlands airports) doesn't promote it enough as an ideal link to the rest of the world via Amsterdam Schiphol, which is only an hour or so away. There have been several articles in HDM over the last year about developments at Leeds/Bradford, so they are obviously targeting this area.
Better keep on your toes, Humberside!”
