A ballot among businesses on whether the scheme should continue for another five years came to an end yesterday.

Businesses in the Bid area, which stretches from the Humber to Freetown Way and takes in The Deep and St Stephen’s Centre, were issued with voting papers on September 26.

Figures released today by Hull City Council show 596 votes were cast in the ballot, 318 of which were in favour of keeping the BID.

“Really encouraging news, especially in these difficult economic times. To have lost the vote, would have set back the city and its appeal. But much, much more needs to be done to communicate the BID's work and its successes, and this needs to be ongoing. The city centre must continue to improve its all-round offer and the Hull BID team are key to this in partnership with others. A good day for Hull. Well done all those who can see the bigger picture.”
