Buying fruit, vegetables, meat and other food produced in East Yorkshire boosts the local economy by keeping money in the area. It also benefits local food producers so they can then spend the extra income they earn on other goods and services from across the region.

Creating this cycle can really boost the local economy and as local businesses grow and need more staff, more jobs are created in the region.

This in turn leads to more people earning and spending in East Yorkshire, further bolstering its economy.

Shaun Boanas, chief executive officer of Hull firm Bonus Electrical, recognises the importance of shopping locally.

He said: “If people shop locally, use local suppliers and trade locally business to business, we can come back fighting from these current economic difficulties.

“If everyone works together businesses can thrive and jobs be secured. It's so important as this affects everyone."
