Car parking charges set to rise in April
EAST YORKS: Motorists are set be hit by a 5 per cent increase in parking charges at council-run sites.
Due to be introduced in April, the hike was agreed at East Riding Council's annual budget-setting meeting this week.

INFLATION: Councillor Stephen Parnaby.
It's the first increase in parking charges by council since August 2010. However, sites in the East Riding where parking is currently free will stay that way for at least another 12 months.
Council leader Stephen Parnaby said a continuing squeeze on available funding meant the authority had little option but to increase charges for some of its services.

He said: "The increases are in line with inflation which makes for sound financial manage- ment.
"While no one wants to see increases, by not doing so you only delay the inevitable which results in larger increases in the future."
He said there was no plans in the council's new budget to introduce parking charges where they did not currently exist.
A proposal by the opposition Liberal Democrat group to use reserves to freeze current parking charges was defeated.
