DRIFFIELD: A card skimming device has been found at the cash machine at Tesco.

Police were called to the George Street store at the weekend and removed the device from the card slot.

They also found a separate camera, which was fitted above the key pad for reading corresponding pin numbers.

Investigations into the incident are continuing and police want to warn others to look out for anything suspicious.

So far, no reports have been made to the police regarding any fraudulent activity after using the machine.

Other cash machines in Driffield have also been checked and do not appear to have been tampered with.

Driffield neighbourhood officer, PC Steve Wilson, said: "Criminals use the copied details to produce a fake magnetic stripe card, which will be used with the correct pin at cash machines or shops that haven't yet been upgraded to chip and pin.

"Customers who shield the keypad when they enter their pin are much less likely to fall victim to this type of fraud."

“I like the idea Viperhull but how would I be able to spend all the Mr's money when he is at work?
I don't like the thought of carrying around his thumb after I have chopped it off!”

“All this technology about and the ATM machines have never changed, still the old put your card in and punch your number in. The money the banks make and they cant even up security on there machines.
They should get rid of the pin numbers and use a system where you stick your thumb on a reader and the machine knows its you as no one can nick your finger print.
Its about time the country moved up into the 21st century.”

“Why don't banks and buildings/shops that have atm's fitted have someone to spend a couple of minutes, twice a day to check these things out. Surely in this crooked world we live in it would be common practice?”

“No photos? It would be helpful to know what these kinds of devices look like, so you know what to look out for.”
