“The woman is clearly in shot when he does this.

“It then shows the couple going to the tills and the woman then pays for a couple of small items in the basket she is carrying, but does not pay for the wine.”

The police believe the bottles of red wine were put at the bottom of the pram, under the baby’s cover, while the baby was inside.

PC White said: “Obviously, this is particularly worrying as the young baby is present during this theft.

“The baby only looked a few months old.

“Had they both been arrested at the scene, what would have happened to the baby?

“Suspicions arose when a Marks & Spencer staff member noticed a large amount of wine missing from one part of the store.”

PC White said it is not uncommon for people to steal goods by hiding them in prams.

“It is the lowest of the low, especially when there is a baby in the pram,” he said.

“It is despicable.

“As awful as it is, it unfortunately isn’t unusual for people to be willing to commit crimes with small children.

“There are plenty of hiding places in a pram and we have found people using their prams as a prop.”

Anyone with information on the theft, which took place on October 29, last year, should call the neighbourhood policing team on 01482 307213.

PC White said: “If anyone knows the couple pictured, please contact us.

“The images are quite clear, so I’m hoping the people are quite recognisable.”

Meanwhile, police need your help to find a man they want to speak to in connection with the theft of items, including deodorant, from Boots in Anlaby.

The CCTV footage is from Friday, January 18.

Anyone with information should call the Kirk Ella neighbourhood policing team on 01482 307213.

“It's a well known trick - use prams to hide stolen goods, however not everyone who has a pram is a thief.

I have to agree with Sebasteeno - shoot not only the smackheads but first flog the people who get other people onto drugs in the first place, then after a week's good hiding shoot them as well.
Good riddance to all drug pushers and drug dealers.. oh and confiscate all their assets first.

Whoosp the happy clappy, sandal wearing, bearded, university educated, lentil muching, cannabis puffing liberal lefties with their 'Human Rights' cr*p won't have any of that because they are on the side of the criminal... you don't need to be Einstein to work that one out..”

“I have a 13 month old baby an I go shopping with my pram and don't use her or the pram as a 'prop' to shoplift so @david_nivea, don't tie us all with the same brush and as for banning prams on buses, that sounds as silly as you!!”

“@David_Nivea, In the words of captain mainwaring "stupid boy" like jojob84 says why should decent people be punished for smack rats? I have to agree with Sebasteeno, if we could rid the country of smack rats crime would drop big time.”

“so when the parents take their children out of the prams and they are running around the shop pulling things off the shelves and getting under peoples feet when their mums have their hands full of shopping or when parents with small babies can't go in shops as they can't carry everything as well as a child what do you suggest then. Why should thieving scumbags dictate that normal hard working people can't take their prams into shops?”
