Firefighters were this afternoon tackling a chemical spill

at Reckitt Benckiser.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service received a call at

11.11am yesterdayreporting a spillage of 50 litres of methyl

vinyl ketone.

More than 35 firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus

and gas tight suits, attended the scene.

This afternoon they remained on site to ensure the spillage

had been properly absorbed and presented no further danger.

Firefighters asked for sand to soak up the chemical and

absorbent mats were used to stop it spreading.

It is understood no one was injured in the incident.

“Im afraid perspective went out of the window with the story the mail printed about the devastating car fire.

Apparently it almost resulted in The China Syndrome.”

“Let us all please get this in to some sort of perspective. We are talking about 50 litres, about 2 plastic drums worth. The staff on the ground and the FB sorted out the problem in line with probably well established emergency procedures. Well done to all involved.”
