Chemical spill at west Hull primary school
Fire crews and paramedics raced to a Hull primary school tonight after reports of a chemical spill.
A cleaner was overcome by fumes as she decanted chemicals in a confined space, believed to have been a store cupboard, at Newland St John Primary in Beresford Avenue, west Hull.
Ambulances and fire crews were called just before 5pm as members of staff still at the school helped the cleaner while the alarm was raised.
Six people, including the cleaner, have been checked over by ambulance staff but no-one required hospital treatment. No children were at the school at the time of the chemical spill.

“OK so a cleaner was overcome by fumes as she decanted chemicals in a confined space, believed to have been a store cupboard
1. What was a cleaner doing decanting chemicals in a store cupboard? Where's the written COSHH assessment, MSDS Sheets and cleaners training records?
2. I agree with dontwo - it was probably bleach...
3. Yes given the modern health and safety hysteria it could also be a storm in a teacup... 'Don't panic Mr Mainwaring..... don't panic...'”

“Given modern health and safety hysteria, they were prob responding to a knocked-over bottle of tippex.”

“Chemical spill? Wonder if the cleaner was mixing chlorine bleach with a cleaning fluid and made homemade mustard gas. Anyway, whatever happened, would have thought the cleaners employers would have given the cleaner proper training and a risk assessment done to avoid this danger when chemicals are stored.”
