A Chinese restaurant in Driffield has been ordered to pay

nearly £30,000 after the owners admitted a string of food

hygiene offences following a Salmonella outbreak last year.

Proprietor of the Water Margin Chinese Restaurant in Market

Place, Jun Yin Li was fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £14,000

after appearing at Beverley Magistrates' Court.

The proprietor pleaded guilty to six food safety offences

following an investigation by environmental health officers in

August 2007.

Between July 30 and August 5, 2007, there were a total of 16

confirmed cases of Salmonella Enteritidis PT8.

As a result of the investigation the proprietors voluntarily

closed the premises from August 7 to August 11 to clean and

disinfect the premises.

The restaurant has tightened up procedures and officers have

said they will continue to re-visit the premises over the

coming weeks to ensure high standards are maintained.
