EAST Riding Council says signs in its car parks will carry clear instructions about which days have no charges.

It has learned a lesson from two years ago, when more than 60 people were ticketed after the authority sent its wardens out on New Year's Day morning.

It was a Sunday and weekend parking had been free right through Christmas.

East Riding Council initially said people would have to pay up. But it eventually relented and they were written off. Council leader Stephen Parnaby said there had been an "element of confusion" with how the bank holiday fell.
