THE Hull and Humber yacht narrowly missed out on being the first British boat to cross the finish line in Central America.
The team was locked in a close battle with Edinburgh Inspiring yesterday morning for sixth and seventh places in the race to Panama.

They eventually crossed the finish line just 28 minutes behind their rivals.
Race eight out of 15 in the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race was a three-week 3,300-mile sail from California to Panama.
The Hull and Humber will arrive in Flamenco Marina this morning, where she and the eight other yachts will journey down the famous 51-mile Panama Canal to the Caribbean, one of the great wonders of modern engineering.
The crew will soak up the atmosphere in Panama, which borders Costa Rica and Colombia, before departing next Tuesday for Jamaica.
The journey to Panama was made in sauna-like temperatures.
Crew member Della Parsons, 43, a BBC production editor of north Hull, wrote in her online blog earlier this week: "It was almost unbearably hot before we even got up today – breakfast on deck is reasonably pleasant but by the time that is over we are sweating, bathing in sunscreen.
"The guys going off watch are not looking forward to trying to sleep below decks in the oven that is now the forepeak."
The race from San Francisco to Panama was won by Spirit of Australia, who have now claimed victory in three of the eight races and is the overall leader.
The Hull and Humber is fifth overall.

“Hey this is one of the citys' greatest achievements, aint it? thats what they keep telling me anyway...HDM will keep flogging this one as much as they're behind the Toads fiasco we can all look forward to and be proud to be a part of this summer. HDM even reported we were leading this leg last month, but that was selective journalism as we were leading for about 10 minutes of a 3000 mile race. Get out on the streets and ask 'real' people if they care about this race, or Larkin. The only people who care about either of these events are the people involved in making money from them. Hull equals Cronyism.”

“Who cares?
Rich boys sport with no connection to Hull except the name on the side of the boat.”
