Clough Road, in north Hull, is due to re-open on Saturday after a burst water main forced emergency repairs.

Council officers were confronted by a 15ft long by 15ft deep hole when they went to survey the damage last Thursday.

Because of the severe flooding in the area, the full extent of the damage was not clear until later.

Richard Townend, Highways manager for Hull City Council, said: "When we first saw the job we thought it would take a lot longer than this.

"But with the help of Yorkshire Water and the patience of the public it has been brought in ahead of time."

Finishing touches to the road will be completed late on Friday night.

“Looks like we may have another leak soon on Clough road, Driving down there late last near the Range store and the road was wet and looked like it was coming from the kerb. And no it was not nor had it been raining, It Could be that they repaired the pipe in one place but the pipe could be that old it have a few more weak spots.”

    “Steve, hull
I don¿t work for the council I work for a private company (does that count as a proper job).
It¿s the council who decide what roads to repair, not us.
Most roads in hull are due for resurfacing but the money has gone elsewhere (and please don¿t ask me) because I have no idea.
And next time ,read what I have written before you insult anyone .because I said I worked in the highways industry ,NOT at the highways agency.

    “Charles, Cott

dont you realise we have already paid for it in past water charges not in the end
but if you bothered to read posts properly you would see that i simply pointed out it was nothing to do with the council
    read properly before you post”

“paul, melton ...just throw some asphalt on it and ¿see if that works¿ I thought with the amount of workmen lounging around topping up the tans on their beer bellies they'd plugged the leak with the thousands of fag ends they'd smoked..”

    “Matty ,hull .
I work in the highways industry..
It¿s the environment agency that everyone has to wait for .
Unless you want them to just throw some asphalt on it and ¿see if that works¿
It won¿t matter about potential other fractures in the road or underground pipes as long as we all get home on time?

It takes weeks normally to plan and repair a road; I think the different agencies have done well.
But what do I know I only work in the industry.”
