Cloutier: Stingrays need points return from Devils
COACH Sylvain Cloutier says Hull Stingrays need at least a point against Cardiff Devils tonight – if they want to maximise their chances of a Challenge Cup quarter-final place.
Stingrays are very much the underdogs in their cup group, given they are pitched against four of the Rapid Solicitors Elite League's big guns in Nottingham, Sheffield, Coventry and Cardiff.
Having lost a tight opener against Nottingham 4-2 on Saturday at Hull Arena, Cloutier says Stingrays cannot afford a regulation time loss in tonight's home clash (face-off 7.30pm).
He said: "We have to get at least a point because we're at home again, otherwise we're going to make life pretty tough for ourselves. I figure we'll need at least six or seven points to qualify, so we need to start sneaking a couple of wins."

Rapid Solicitors Stingrays will again be without American defenceman Shane Lovdahl, who is still awaiting news of his visa. However, Jereme Tendler and Andy Ward are back in the line-up after missing the Nottingham clash due to illness and a family bereavement respectively.
"We'll be able to roll with three lines tonight, which will be different for us.
"I'm looking for a repeat of the Nottingham performance, we have to be consistent every game," said Cloutier. "There are no excuses, the effort has to be there for 60 minutes, just like it was against the Panthers.
"We had our chances to steal a point, but we ran out of gas in the last few minutes and made a couple of mistakes which cost us. We need to reach the same level tonight."
