A Withernsea couple  confined to  one room to keep warm after their warm air heating system and gas fire broke down have been helped by a  nationwide scheme.

John Walshaw has Parkinson’s disease and his wife Jayne has a condition that  affects the nerves in her legs, causing her to be mostly confined to a wheelchair.

The cold makes both their health problems worse.

The Walshaws were  referred to the npower Health Through Warmth scheme, who enabled the installation of a gas supply and central heating in their home.

The scheme is run in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council and aims to help vulnerable people whose health is adversely affected by cold, damp living conditions. For more details, visit www.healththroughwarmth.com
