Comet job losses 'virtually unavoidable' - Hull MP Alan Johnson
Job losses at Comet are virtually unavoidable, Hull West and Hessle MP Alan Johnson has warned.
The Labour MP claims come after a meeting with Comet bosses yesterday, also attended by council leader Steve Brady.
Mr Johnson said: "The company has serious problems to overcome and I think it's unlikely we'll avoid job loses entirely, but the council will now be working closely with Comet in order to maximise its presence in the city."
Comet has launched a 90-day consultation on closing its call centre in George Street, making 316 staff redundant.

The company is proposing to merge two call centres in Hull and Clevedon, near Bristol.
In a letter to Comet chairman John Clare and chief executive Bob Darke, Mr Johnson said: "The council has a number of premises we believe would be suitable if, as we have heard, the lease is about to run out on the George Street offices."
