Ban on 084 numbers at GP surgeries?
MINISTERS are considering a ban on the use of controversial 084 numbers at GP surgeries.
Earlier this year, the Mail reported on how the system, which charges patients up to 5p a minute from land lines and 40p a minute from mobile phones, was being used by 11 surgeries in East Yorkshire.

Consultation on 084 numbers at GP surgeries
The system, operated by Surgery Line, has been branded unfair by patients and health watchdogs
Now the Government has launched an England-wide consultation to ask people whether they want to keep the numbers.

“I despise numbers beginning with 08 and 09. I never use them at all, they cost more and I like to know precisely where people are who I call. You can easily work this out from the first few digits of their phone number. The area code is a dead giveaway. Firms who hide behind these dreadful numbers have something to hide or are rip-off merchants, as these numbers cost more.”

“I like this pot calling the kettle black. If you need to contact one of the Government agencies by phone you call. Yes you've guessed it a 084 number.”

“Nita, I have just had a spell in hospital, and did not use the tele or the phone, and it did not affect my treatment or recovery.
I had the choice, which I turned down
However using a phone to book to see my GP on a for profit basis however is an imposition that i can not avoid. that is why it should be stopped.
As for the car park charge, I did not need the car parking when in the hospital, however my visitors did, and they got a months pass for £10.
Unfortunately, without charges, particularly in the towns, the cars would be there all day while they did the shopping or went to work. . That is what happened in the past.
sad but true.”

“When Ministers have done that, they should look into the cost of telephone calls to and from patients in hospital. Along with the charges for viewing T.V, and using the hospital carparks”
