ON VIDEO: Cornfield puzzle promises to be an a-maze-ing family day out
IT IS an amazing attraction that aims to bamboozle visitors to an East Yorkshire farm.
Mystified people have been left scratching their heads as they try to negotiate the new Beverley Maze.
The network of puzzling paths has been created in a ten-acre maize crop at Park Farm, Risby, near the town.
Farmer John Clappison has diversified to provide the new tourist attraction for the summer holidays.
Maize is a fast-growing crop that produces corn on the cob, and is ideal for the 600-acre farm's new venture.
With its own logo, Bob The Cob, the maze has been greeted with delight by East Yorkshire families.
Hundreds of visitors have already put the labyrinth to the test, with most managing to navigate its mile of paths.
Mr Clappison, 49, said: "Maize mazes have grown in popularity, but the nearest one is 25 miles away at York.
"Maize can grow up to 9cm a day once established, so we decided to invest in a new tourist attraction for the East Riding.
"It is a great way to get children to leave their computer games and Facebook and enjoy an interactive attraction in the fresh air."

Sophisticated satellite technology was used to steer a tractor to cut the maize in the shape of a huge juggling clown.
The fastest time to get through the maze is so far 40 minutes, but normally takes one-and-a-half to two hours to complete properly.
Visitor Caroline Reed, 47, of Beverley, said: "We have been to the maize maze at York, but this is also very good and very challenging.
"It is certainly a new attraction for the Beverley and Hull area, and we really enjoyed our day out at the maze.
"Children don't get out as much as they used to, and this is a great way to get them into the fresh air to enjoy a range of activities."
The maze includes a fun quiz trail and clown lookout towers, and a play area with go-karts, trampoline, mini-diggers, hay bale mountain, and hot and cold food.
The farm diversification business has provided holiday jobs for Mr Clappison's daughters who are among 10 part-time employees.
Yasmin Clappison, 18, a sports student at Bishop Burton College, said: "The maze is going well, and it is a great holiday job.
"Our visitors think it is a brilliant attraction for the area, and there has been really positive feedback from them.
"Families say it is a good day out, and some of them have spent up to five hours here enjoying the entertainment."
Beverley Maze is open from 10am to 5.30pm every day until September 4, and then Saturday and Sunday to September 26, when the remainder of the maize will be harvested.
Admission costs £5.50 for adults, £4 for children aged 3 to 16 and senior citizens, £17 for a family ticket and free for under-threes and wheelchair users.

“visited with my daughter and four grandchildren and had a great time. A really good selection of things to do from the maze itself, to fun things like the bouncy castle, varioius bikes and carts and trampoline to challenging and educational things like giant draughts, chess, jenga and other games. Kept the kids occupied all day and they didn't want to leave. Fair entry prices and only the quad bikes are charged at £1 per ride. Just one complaint - the food. Beefburgers, beefburgers & cheese, Beefburgers & chips, chips or chip butties, ice cream or milk shake but not a healthy option in site. No wonder our kids are growing into a nation of fatties!”
